Our Designated Neighbourhood Boundary

Our boundary is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au,which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school. Your school zone is determined based on your permanent residential address. Families who do not reside within our boundary, but who have a particular interest in our Italian Bilingual model are welcome to submit an application supported by a statement of interest as detailed below.

Our school manages enrolments using the DE Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their local school. Students may enrol at another school if there are available places.

Transitioning to secondary school

All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Year 6 to 7 placement timeline.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government secondary school. Applications for Year 7 open at the start of Term 2.

Victorian government primary schools manage the Year 7 placement process for their Year 6 students in accordance with the timeline. At the start of Term 2, primary schools will distribute information packs to parents and carers.

2027 Foundation (Prep) enrolments

All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government primary school.

You can apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) in 2027 from Monday 20 April 2026.

What you need to do:

1. Contact Brunswick South Primary School to book a school tour or book here. All prospective families are strongly encouraged to attend a tour with their child before applying.

2. Download the Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available by Monday 20 April 2026). This pack includes guidance on the application process.

3. Submit an enrolment application by Friday 31 July 2026.

4. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026.

5. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.

6. Take part in school transition sessions during Term 4, 2026.

7. Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Thursday 28 January 2027.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Enrolment Policy.

Other year level enrolments

We also accept enrolment applications for students in other year levels. You can submit a request at any time in the school year.

Eligible students who live within our school zone are guaranteed a place, while students outside the zone may be enrolled if there are available places.

STARTING SCHOOL

BILINGUAL ENROLMENT POLICY

To be eligible for enrolment on language grounds (criteria 2), the student must meet one of the following selection criteria:

a)     student speaks Italian at home.

b)    student is or has been enrolled in an eligible kindergarten or school.

c)     at least one parent or carer speaks Italian.

When enrolling on language grounds, parents and carers of students applying from outside the school zone must complete the Language Grounds Attachment. A Language Grounds Attachment will only be provided to parents and carers if Brunswick South Primary School has insufficient accommodation for all students who seek entry.

To qualify under selection criteria a,the attachment requires parents and carers to confirm that the student speaks Italian at home.

To qualify under selection criteria b, the student must have attended one of the following early childhood or school settings for a minimum of 1 year, 12 hours a week:

·         For Foundation enrolments, the student has been enrolled in an early childhood service that delivered at least 50% of their state-funded four-year-old kindergarten program[1] in Italian.

·         For students transferring from other schools seeking enrolment in Years 1 to 6, the student has been enrolled in a full-immersion or partial-immersion (bilingual) target language early childhood service or school.

There must be no gap between attending the eligible kindergarten or school and seeking enrolment at Brunswick South Primary School.

Parents and carers may be asked to supply the student’s previous enrolment record or attendance certificate as evidence.

To qualify under selection criteria c, the attachment requires parents and carers to indicate that at least one parent or carer speaks Italian. Parents and carers may be asked to provide supporting documentation, such as a copy of their secondary school or tertiary education record, to demonstrate proficiency in the language.

When there are more applicants under language grounds than available places at the school, eligible students who meet criteria a will be prioritised first, followed by those meeting criteria b, and then those meeting criteria c. If required, students who satisfy the same selection criteria can be further prioritised in order of closeness of their permanent residence to the school.

Enrolment Process for students in Grade 1-6

If your family are relocating, or you are interested in having your children attend Brunswick South Primary School, we ask that you first get in touch with the school office to enquire and book in for one of our school tours. At that point, we will walk you through the enrolment process and timeline.

Parent Payments

Under the Department of Education’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions.

Our Parent Payment Letter , which is approved by school council and distributed annually, outlines the voluntary parent/carer contributions at our school.
